Consultations
You can refer your patient to the general consultation or to one of the specialised consultations in the Center for Medical Genetics Ghent (CMGG), see https://www.uzgent.be.
Address of the clinic: Universitair Ziekenhuis Gent, Ingang 81 - Corneel Heymanslaan 10, 9000 Gent
Please contact the GMGG secretariat for further information and appointments: +32(0)9-332 3603.
During the consultation at the CMGG patients and their family members are extensively informed on the possibilities and restrictions of genetic tests. After this informative session they can always refuse the genetic test. For certain genetic tests a written informed consent is explicitly requested.
The consultation includes the following: the patient’s medical history is noted down, a pedigree is drawn up, a clinical examination is carried out and a genetic test is carried out if required and if available (diagnostic test or predictive test) or other medical examinations are carried out.
Requesting a genetic test
If you wish to apply for a genetic test, we prefer that you use the CMGG application forms. For further information please check the list with genetic tests and see instructions for samples. Samples can be refused if they do not meet the quality standards. You will be informed if this should be the case.
Application forms should be filled in completely and unambiguously. We might contact you to obtain additional information. Therefore, we ask you to clearly mention your personal data when applying for a test.
